Net-savvy kids and their brainy monitors
|
The world of young netizens exists between the click of the mouse and varying screens on the monitor.

IF YOU have forgotten to pay your telephone bill Press 1. If you have forgotten to service your vehicle Press 2. If you have forgotten your wife's birthday Press 3. If you have forgotten to visit your mother-in-law...
DOS &Windows
Treading into a phase where the world is being viewed through a monitor (or aptly called Windows) is a sure sign of achievement. In this press button era when everything is available in a flicker a sense of incredulity sets in and many are beginning to question themselves if the world is really treading towards progress? But entrapped in the whirlwind of new ideas, concepts and discoveries there is no time to ponder and reflect. For apart from instant information on any topic at your fingertips the CPU even does your thinking for you. The hi-tech age thus helps our brain cells to relax and maybe if we choose to even slumber into a coma. For the computers reminds us everything from A to Z. It even reminds us to forget.
RAM
For proof look around at what children are occupied with. Today's kids are growing up not with kites, tops and marbles but with computers, cell phones etc. The memory that should rightfully be stored in their brains is stored in these gadgets' memories. Consequences of this on developing, little brains are interesting to conjecture.
In the days to come a child's education may no longer begin with a, b, c, d, but with HTTP// WWW. SMS etc. Kindergarten children may rightly ask their parents why they should learn to write their names if they could key in the same. As the Desktop unlike school desks churn out instant information on any subject, at any unearthly hour, kids are likely to complain to parents that their class teachers are not user-friendly.
Redundant brains
Further, judging by the way things move children would have devised a way to Copy and Paste an updated back-up copy of their brain in a disc so they would not forget what they learnt last semester. The classroom may seem abnormal to the student for he would search for Tools and Help Command and other Icons on the blackboard if asked to write on it. Books too they wish had remote controls. In short, to the kids of tomorrow, reading books and going to school would appear a futile exercise. For they feel they can earn any degree in their pyjamas.
New lingo
You would also need to educate and update yourselves with the changing vocabulary of the kids in future. For they would Delete unworthy friends and Save the good ones. Or even Zoom in and Zoom them out accordingly. Don't be surprised if they Boot your advice. Also kids in future may do homework only if they are allowed to watch TV at the same time for they would insist it is the age of Multitasking. And most games with friends will no longer be on playgrounds but on Net Meeting. But something what kids may never figure out is why a rodent should be named after a computer part.
System failure
However, with too many options to choose things may sometimes back fire. For there maybe students who would have flunked Math's test for erroneously bringing their Spell Check to the examination hall instead of the calculator. Also be on guard- the pranks of the viscous among the lot can go overboard. For some may try to hack into the school computer to alter their grades. And finally bored with homework they would close their books and call it a day. For their brain losing its Range and Frequency can no longer Download- and its time to Shut Down.
