Manjari Fadnis has graduated from Channel V's all girl band to a lead role in `Rok Sako to Rok Lo'

TELEVISION PROMOS show 21-year-old Manjari Fadnis singing Sapno Ka Ye Jahan song with hero Yash Pandit, completely drenched in an all-revealing blue dress (?).

Later she is also in school uniform, kissing, caressing and all, in her debut film Rok Sako To Rok Lo by Arindam Chaudhuri. The film's advertisement banners have already declared her as "nation's new sweetheart". And Manjari is not too bothered about it.

"Initially, I was hesitant to wear this dress," admits Manjari, "but I was made to think the other way, that is, though the dress is revealing yet it is innocent. And since my character is that of a very simple and innocent schoolgirl, audience's attention will be directed more towards my face than what I am wearing in this song. This shot is not representative of the film." The film shows school children in dresses, which they usually do not wear, and situations not common in schools. "That's not true. In this film as a student I did not do anything that I did not do in my school days. It is very close to ordinary school life," she protests.

For this product of Army Public School, the decision to join films was met with opposition at home. "Since I am the only child of my parents, they ultimately surrendered to my wishes," says Manjari who made her entry into the world of entertainment as one of the pop stars in Channel V's all-girl album titled Asma in 2003.

With her big eyes and child-like face, Manjari's singing talent is appreciable. During the music launch of the film she sang her "favourite" song from the film Sapno Ka with the ease of a long-time singer.

She reasons, "My mother teaches classical music and my aunt (mother's sister) is also a professional classical singer. I have learnt some skills from them."

Manjari is now on a two-year contract with Planman Life, Arindam's corporate venture. She is again paired opposite Yash Pandit in its next production, Faltoo, "an off-beat romantic film" about a man in search of identity.

Is she too in search of an identity? "Yes, through different roles," she admits. Talking about Rok Sako... , she says, "Senior people will go back to their good-old school days once they watch this film."
