Film screening

THE BRITISH Council, with support from The Park, Chennai, Unwind Center and Barista, is screening "Ratcatcher" as part of the Buzz series. The film will be screened on December 1, 7 p.m., in the courtyard of the British Council, Anna Salai.

Set in Glasgow in the mid-1970s, the film, directed by Lynne Ramsay, is seen through the eyes of 12-year-old James Gillespie, a young boy haunted by a secret. Feeling distant from his family, his only escape comes with the discovery of a new housing development on the outskirts, where he has the freedom to lose himself in his own world. Enticed by a local gang of boys, James is thrown together with vulnerable 14-year-old Margaret Anne and this leads to a hesitant but touching experience of first love. Passes for the show are available at the British Council on a first-come-first- served basis. For details, call 52050600.
