Haute winter

Check out the Winter 2004 trends that rule Hyderabadi hi-streets

IT'S THAT time of the year when deep reds and dark pinks rule. And fleece, leather jackets and hoods come out of the closet. Never mind the absence of snowflakes, indulge in shimmer the same, beckons the season. Winter 2004 in Hyderabad has lots in store.

"It is Christmas and New Year time and of parties and balls. We are going back to Lycra and new shimmery and shiny blends. Black remains the hot colour irrespective of trends. Lots of reds and ecru will be winter colours this year," says designer Joseph Sunder.

"This winter will see even more colour and pattern with plenty of textured fabrics, fur and knits," agrees Samir Agrawal, Unit Head, Shoppers' Stop, Hyderabad.

Season's hue

Apart from whites, blacks and pinks, browns and peach make a come back. Stripes and pop art are haute this season.

For fabrics, this winter finds newer linen blends and textured metallic options. Denims, suede and corduroys rule -- as jackets, skirts and fashion trousers.

For winter wear, a lot of accent is on mock fur edging for denim jackets. Mock leather is another must-buy this winter.

Turtlenecks remain cool this year again with a refreshing sporty look seen across the knits and woollies. "An interesting trend this year is the T-shirt look is followed on to the winter look -- such as stripes and numbers," says Bina Mirchandani, head category management, Pantaloons.

`In' Silhouettes

Silhouettes go slimmer this season for jackets and outerwear as shirts take a slimmer look , to add to those hours on the treadmill. Retro promises to be the flavour this New Year.

And poncho might just be the understood dress code for soirees. Belted jackets arrive with a bang at the malls in town.

As also knee length skirts, structured evening dresses replete with sequins in georgette and chiffons, metallic shimmer shirts, fluid trousers and textured jackets.

Finally the essential mantra to wrap up the haute fare — accessories. With caps, gloves, belts and scarves. And girls do up those eyes really smoky with plum and pink for rouge and not forgetting that dash of shimmer powder.
