SCENT OF A WOMAN: Follow it Pic by. Paul Noronha
ROMANTIC ONE day, sunny and bright - the next, bubbling with fizz and energy - the third day and mischievous and spicy on the fourth.
Mysterious and alluring this evening, an extravagant Diva tomorrow night and stunningly scintillating on your big night!
Forget Fashion - we are talking fragrances here! Of course, the choice of the world's best scents available today off shelves will most certainly allow you to don multiple personalities. But that is not the idea. A scent speaks much about your persona and the trail that you leave behind will to a large extent determine how you spend your day. Perhaps then, time to get a little nosy about the subject.
Akin to appreciating fine wine, perfumes too need to be relished in several layers. For the simple reason that an average perfume is made up of a minimum of a 100 smells. Which in turn are clubbed into 3 NOTES - top, middle and bottom. Take note here - the top notes are the first that you whiff which are fleeting and will go away before you say "perfume". The scent that lingers on after about 10 minutes of applying is the middle note, which will last up to two hours. The bottom notes are the strongest and will stay with you through the day. All these smells are then mixed and bound with the help of a base - usually alcohol.
Your mood and personality type apart, the one most important factor that should be factored-in while deciding the right scent, is your own natural body odour. To know whether it compliments your body's chemistry or not - spray or dab on your wrist, allow the alcohol base to dry and wait some more time (10 minutes ideally) to set-in the scent. This largely is what the fragrance will be like on you. Savour it, and sense the sensibility that the scent is evoking in you.
Do's and Don'ts
Some do's and don'ts will help you get the right fragrance. Our sense of smell is most heightened at the end of the day, so that is the best time to buy a scent. Smells stay longer on oily skin. Applying an oil-based skin lotion will enhance its longevity. Wear stronger smells in cooler weather as cold reduces their intensity. Fruity flowery spritzes are most suitable for summer. Never spray perfume on your clothes as this causes staining. Apply perfume on pulse points like wrists, behind knees, nape of the neck and inner ankles. Oils in perfumes are photosensitive and exposure to sun immediately after applying can cause permanent marks on your skin. Apply an hour or so before heading out. For everlasting fragrance, use products from the same brand in layers that is soap, body lotion, moisturizer, talc and lastly the perfume and you could give daisies stiff competition.
Shops these days are teeming with an unlimited variety. Narrow it down to suit your style, well armed with the right info. Go on; make your scent make your day!
