As many as 25 cultural items in obeisance to Lord Ganapathi, Lord Shiva, Sri Krishna and Goddess Devi were enacted by the students of the Balabhanu Vidyalayam as part of the school's 27th anniversary recently.
The students also staged social dramas like `Intinti Ramayanam' narrating the moral poems from Vemana, Sumathi and Kumara Satakams to create a congenial atmosphere among family members. The patriotic spirit of the kids came to the fore through the dance, `Vandemataram' and the play let, `Andharu Bharateeyulu'.
The Regional Manager of The Hindu, T.A. Venkateswaran, participated as chief guest. The school chairman, K. Parvathi Kumar, its correspondent, B.R.K. Raju, and the principal, V. Parvathy, spoke.

The Visakha Institute of Competitions will organise a `Maths camp' for children studying between Std. III and X from December 18 to January 2.
The participants will be taught modern techniques to solve various problems. They would be given tips to make them understand the subject easily and overcome their Maths-phobia, according to the institute's director, B.V.K. Babji.

The annual day of the Navy Children School was held on the theme `Together we can'. The tapestry that was presented to the chief guest, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command, O.P. Bansal, the officers, guests and parents and guests was a colourful and diverse one.

The children presented dramas and dance reflecting our rich cultural heritage. The prizes, given away by the guest of honour, Renu Bansal, included a rolling trophy for the best speaker and best house in English debate and elocution.

D.P.P. Ravi Teja (Std. VIII) of Quincy Talent School, N. Mounica (Std. VII) of DAV Public School and Amit Dhanuha (Std. VI) of City Gems' School won the first, second and third prize respectively in the essay writing competition organised by the City Gems' School recently.
Teja (Std. IX) of Bhashyam Public School and Sri Harsha (Std. IX) of Belmont High School secured consolation prizes.

C. Rama Devi, a student of Olivet School bagged the `Pratibha Award 2004' for scoring 559 marks out of 600 at this year's SSC Examination. The award was given to her at a special function held at the Lal Bahadur in Hyderabad recently.
P. Anusha (Std. VIII) won a silver medal in the 4 x 100 metres `Free style relay' at the XXX National Sports Festival for Women held at Ludhiana from November 17 to 20.
E. Aparna of Std. VII won the first prize in the Handwriting Competition organised by the Visakha Book Festival Society during the recent Book Festival. Geeta Yamini (Std. VI) won the third prize and Ashish Dhaniwala of Std.VII won a consolation prize in the competition, according to the school's director, Sheila Jackson.

An inter-school yogasana competition will be conducted by the AP State Yoga Society at the Rail Club near the Railway Station on Saturday. The contest is open to children in the 8 to 16 age group.
