Rich tributes were paid to the memory of the genius of cine playback singing sensation of yesteryears, Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao, on Wednesday at a function organised by the admirers of the golden voice celebrating his 82nd jayanthi at Kalabharati.
The secretary of the Bhushan Brothers orchestra, D. Bhoopathi Rao, who was in the chair, besides the guests of honour, the ACP (Traffic), TSR Prasad, the connoisseurs of music, Ponnada Mohana Rao, Ganesh Kumar, B.S. Uma Maheswara Rao and Meesala Ramamurthy, and the Akashvani music composer, K.S. Chandrasekhar, felicitated the Andhra Medical College professor, G. Arjun, and the best teacher awardee, S. Annamma, on the occasion.
Chandrasekhar went nostalgic recapitulating his association with the music field of the tinsel world, his association with stalwart music directors Ramesh Naidu, Venu and the likes composing music along with them.
Later, the Bhushan Brothers orchestra comprising Phanibhushan Rao, Sashibhushan Rao, Chandramouli and Umaprasad (all brothers) along with noted female singers Sasikala, Sujatha and Navya, rendering select solos and duets (Ghantasala's), regaled the audience for about two hours. The rendering of a solo each from the movies `Cheli' and the old `Aaradhana' by the nine-year old daughter of the eldest of the brothers, Jamuna Vihari, was not only a special attraction but also an exhilarating revelation of the gifted and sustained talent of music in the family over three generations.
Suresh, Prakash and Krishnababu on the keyboard, Kiran Prasad on the tabla, Y. Prasad on the electronic pads, and Y. Raju on the drums lent excellent orchestral support. Bhoopathi Rao and Bhisetty Venkateswara Rao compered the show well.

Celebrating its founder's day, Vintage Visakha, a forum for the elderly, organised a lecture, "Reminiscenes of a civil servant" by V.P. Rama Rao, recently. Its president, A.R. Subrahmanyam, who chaired the session, recalled the services of the forum's founder-president, D. Sudarshan.
Mr. Rama Rao expounded in detail the objective imagination of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel who meticulously carved a pattern of Indian Administrative Service and established it on a strong footing. "If the system has to fulfil its cherished objectives, the officers not only have to put their mind and heart at the formulation stage of new policies but also hold responsibility for their implementation without fear, favour and discrimination," he said and added: "Education, especially at the primary level should be quality-orientated as its development and progressive implementation determines the nation's march towards prosperity."
In dealing the other basic issues like population control etc, the civil servants should develop a habit of working hand in hand with the intellectuals and media", he concluded.
The District Collector and Magistrate, Praveen Prakash, released the forum's quarterly `Prasanth Jeevanam'. The noted senior citizen, C.S. Rao, introduced the speaker, V.P. Rama Rao. The joint secretary, V.K. Malavya Sarma, welcomed the gathering. Ch.V. Kama Raju proposed a vote of thanks.

Ch. Neelima Satyanand (Class X of the Timpany School) stands stamped a child prodigy not only for her show of brilliance at in studies but also for her achievements in classical dance, roller- skating including its use in dance, winning of prizes consistently at all competitions held at district, State and national levels for more than five years by now.
The recent gold, the second she won consecutively at the national competitions in classical dance on roller-skates held at Faridabad recently, is yet another feather in her cap and enhancing the pride of the port city as well.
She presented the item `Dasavatharamulu' in the Kuchipudi style under the expert direction of her noted guru, Avasarala Rukmaji Rao.
