Bollywood for lunch

IF THERE is an eating-place that can truly stake its claims to capturing the magic and masti of the Hindi movies it is the Filmi Masala restaurant at DLF City Centre in Gurgaon. The name of the restaurant, logo, decoration, menu and the music all reflect the perfect ambience, fun and glamour associated with the Bollywood stuff. A unit of D & A Hospitality, the restaurant's bar offers an array of cocktails, mocktails, wines, liquors and spirits.

There is something filmi about everything that the restaurant does. The menu has references to popular film titles. The cocktails carry names like `Rangeela Re' and `Himalaya Ki God Mein' (Daiquiri), `Unde Ka Funda' (Snow ball), `Murder' (Bloody Mary), `Lal Topi Roosi' (Vodka), `Yeh Sham Mastani' and `Main Hoon Na'. The Mocktails are equally filmi in nature like `Chal Sanyasi' `Nimbuda', `Phal Phal Dil Ke Paas', `Agni Varsha', `Hera Pheri' etc.

The restaurant that offers both vegetarian and non-vegetarian snacks, has named them also appropriately in a filmi manner. Some of the names include `Chand Ka Tukdaa Paneer', `Teri Bhindiya Re Okra', `Dilwale Aloo Le Jjayenge'. The non-vegetarian snacks include `Hunterwali `chicken drumsticks, `O Machhi Re' fish fingers, `Mona Darling' mutton burrs and `Tandoori Nites' seekh kababs.

Says V.N.Dalmia, Chairman, D & A Hospitality, " When we launched the restaurant this year in May, our aim was to provide the guests a feel of Bollywood inside the restaurant. We named the dishes after Bollywood actors and actresses so that customers could have some fun with their cuisine." Inside the restaurant, the titles of popular Hindi movies are written on the walls like Mughal-E-Badhazam, Kabhi Whisky Kabhi GuM, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. The dialogues of film actors like Amitabh Bachhan, Amrish Puri and others are added here with some funny quotes. In addition to these the cartoons of Aishwarya Rai, Amir Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Pran too embellish the walls.
