Vidyardhi...

Aditya Music... Rs. 38

A MUSICIAN of his stature at least should have avoided it, especially when another song with the same opening tune has become a major hit. Not that Manisharma's efforts have gone kaput, but the song Sye sye syte veddaamaa begins exactly like Cheliya cheliya in Gharshana, before quickly moving over to a different beat. That is not the only drawback of the song. Singer Ganapathi's fake attempt to render the song in a non-Telugu fashion makes his pronunciation atrocious — with absolutely no difference in the way the `la' sound is treated, especially in words like gully (street), malli (again) and kallu (eyes) where it is pronounced in the same way.

Hyderabad hai rabba royi parigeduthondi takes you on a detour of the twin cities a la `a woman's figure' mode, which again is in bad taste. Oke okkasari nenunnanantu raavaa by S.P. Charan is a feel-good number. Em pilla maatladavu bombayi pilla, written in the Telangana dialect, is a pointer to the Mumbai girls, imported to the Telugu industry, who really cannot follow the lyrics they are enacting. If only they understand the meaning...

Virise prati puvvu choosi nee navve anukunna by Hariharan is another good song. The album rounds off with the title song Andhra khiladi Vidyardhi by Tippu and Mahalakshmi. Premji gives the chorus and rap support for this song.


Vijayendra Varma...

Supreme... Rs. 38.

WANT TO go out for a smoke in the hall, then these songs provide the perfect reason. After listening to the numbers, not only would you prefer to forget them but you also cannot recall the tunes or lyrics even if you wish to. That is the quality of these numbers. The musician, Koti and the lyricists, Veturi, Ashok Teja and Chandra Bose surely knew this while doing their job. They were only trying to impress Balakrishna's fans. One cannot blame them since the producer's commercial interests are more important than good music!

The numbers are racy and the lyrics are lost in the din of music except in Oh Manmadha that sounds the best of the lot. The rest Siggu Paparo, Maisamma, Mandapeta Lo and Guntadu Guntadu are purely for the frontbenchers. Of course, that audience decides the fate of the movie and music has to satisfy them. Mandapeta Lo number rendered by Shankar Mahadevan and Chitra has a bit of folk. Perhaps the picturisation demands it. But it is heard to understand, why Chandra Bose uses so many English words. Balakrishna fans can feast on Guntadu Guntadu as this one is surely aimed at making them dance in the halls.

If you have cassettes of Narasimha Naidu and Samarasimha Reddy - the two musical hits of Balakrishna just don't waste money buying this album. It has nothing worth listening.

HINDI

Musafir... T-Series... Rs. 55

SAME OLD Sanjay Gupta, same old Anand Raj Anand. Up till now they were copying foreign flicks, here they are copying themselves. Still failure is the word. Musafir is no Kaante. Except for Ishq Kabhi Kariyon Na by Sunidhi Chauhan no other number goes with the heat being promoted by Sameera Reddy and company. Anand tries to repeat the Mahive Ve magic with Rabba but despite repeating it three times he fails to match his past. Ek Dil Ne rendered by Kunal Ganjawal and Shreya Ghoshal could have worked had there been some meaningful lyrics to match the soft music and smooth tone. Sanjay Dutt tries his voice again after Khoobsurat with Tez Dhaar but again falls short. The macho man should realise you can't do without malleability in singing. If one has to select the saving grace, Saaki by Sukhwinder and Sunidhi Chauhan is the one. Don't follow this Musafir, it won't take you anywhere.

Teri Kasam...

T-Series... Rs. 55

ADNAN SAMI is at his romantic best here. He starts with Kasam and immediately strikes chords with his soulful voice and touching verse by Sameer. The mood of the album remains almost the same and so is the level of Adnan's efforts. Be it Mahiya or Poocho or, for that matter, Pal Do Pal. Over a period of time, Adnan's every song seems to be a continuation of Bheegi Bheegi Raton Mein, the song that anointed him in the Indian hearts. Here he is celebrating the reunion with the beloved, there he is longing for a meeting. Even if it sounds good, repetition can't match the joys of an average original. Dancing with some cute faces in music videos is O.K., market needs are understandable but it is time his fans are looking for some `lift' in variety by the talented Adnan.
