New articles for decoration and gifts tempt customers to splurge for Christmas

IT IS that time of the year when Santa comes calling. It is also the time to put up the stockings and decorate Christmas trees. Stores in the city are already in the celebration mode, stocked with Christmas trees, candles and decorations for the trees and for homes. Shops are awash with red, green and white, the colours traditionally associated with Yuletide.
Santa Claus
The favourite and everlasting symbol of Christmas, Santa Claus or Saint Nicholas, is also one of the favourites for decoration. Santa masks, Santa caps, Santa-on-a-Christmas tree... there are all kinds of Santa curios available now.
The prices for those starts at Rs. 25 and can go up to Rs. 500. They make good curios for those who want to do up their house for Christmas but do not have the place for a Christmas trees. For those who are game for some change they can buy Santas that are quite funky, playing saxophones and beating drums.
Trees
After Santas, comes Christmas trees, a must for Christmas. These come in varying sizes, and believe it or not colours as well. Style Plus has a very interesting collection of Christmas trees.
For those who are tired of the old-fashioned green Christmas tree, there are gold and pink coloured trees as well.
A pink X'mas tree may not seem authentic enough but they are pretty and cost Rs. 450. Stores selling Chinese articles have a good collection of Christmas trees. Prices start at Rs. 50 for the smallest tree and it can go up to Rs.7,000 for a six-foot-high tree.
There are those without decorations and some come with decorations.
In certain cases depending on the size, the prices of the decorations are inclusive.
For that authentic look, there are 20-inch Christmas trees with `snow' and a base. It costs Rs. 450. The closer the trees look to the original, the more expensive they get.
Musical boxes
Another popular item is musical boxes with small X'mas trees on the lid.
Apart from this, there are bells, bunches of holly (fake) with bells and tiny gift boxes. You can buy these in three colours - brown and gold, in plain silver colour or gold.
The boxes cost between Rs.50 and Rs. 300. Candles also are available in a wide variety of shapes, colours and consistencies, from the simple wax candle to gel and aroma candles.
The prices for these items start at Rs. 25. These make very good gifts as well as decorations.
Decorations for Christmas trees such as glittering balls, stars, stencils, Merry X'mas cut-outs, and fairy lights tempt customers to splurge. The prices of those items start at Rs. 5.
