FESTIVALS THESE days are more about eating out and buying trendy clothes. So stores and hotels make the most by coming up with new ideas, fresh stocks and offering discounts to coincide with the spirit of celebration. Want to check out wants happening round the city?
Aahar, the multi-cuisine restaurant at The Residency (ph: 28253434), has special Christmas lunch and dinner (December 24 to 30). Priced at Rs. 250, the menu will include Christmas delights such as roast turkey with cranberry sauce, biriyani, assorted Indian breads and exotic desserts such as plum pudding with brandy sauce, Yule log and special gateaux.
The Residency Towers (ph: 28156363) offers special menu on Christmas eve and on Christmas Day (Thai, Goan, Sri Lankan, Mughlai and Indian cuisines). There will be carol singing and on December 25 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Santa Claus will meet children while a wishing well, with gifts for kids will be created at the Main Street. Make a wish, drop a coin and see your evening change. The collection will be shared with The Banyan, a home for destitute women.
The Savera's Cake Shop, Baker's Basket offers a variety of cakes and gift hampers. Carnival de Xmas will be on till December 30 at the hotel's Lobby Café (Rs. 149). At The Piano, a Filipino band will compliment the candlelit Christmas eve dinner and the Christmas dinner. There will also the traditional Christmas lunch (Rs. 450). At Citrus, handpicked menu from across the globe is being offered in lunch and dinner (Rs. 599). DJs will pep up your spirit at The Lounge and Sparks (Rs. 500 cover charge). Traditional fare
GRT Temple Bay (243636)will have Christmas Eve dinner on the beachfront accompanied by live music and dancing for Rs. 550 plus tax. Christmas lunch will be a traditional affair at Santa Maria (Rs. 500 plus tax). On till December 31.
At GRT Grand's (ph: 28150500) 24-hour coffee shop, a traditional buffet awaits food lovers on December 24 and 25 (Rs. 450 for adults and Rs. 350 for kids) while The Lobby will resound with carols. The hotel's cake shop, The Slice has a delectable variety to offer.
The highlight of Radisson GRT's (ph: 22310101) Christmas lunch buffet at the Garden Café (Rs. 450) is turkey pudding and pie. While for dinner the Great Kebab Factory will offer kebabs with Christy on December 24 and 25 (Rs. 700 for non-veg and Rs. 600 for veg).
The Matchpoint at the Taj Coromandel has a special spread for lunch and dinner on December 24, 25 and 26. The hotel has organised a kids carnival on December 24 at the poolside from 10.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. with games and gifts and a mega buffet at Rs. 300 for kids and Rs. 550 for adults. Carol singing, a sumptuous dinner on Christmas eve and a buffet lunch on Christmas Day will make for the celebrations at the Taj Connemara. At Fisherman's Cove the celebration will be on till January 5, 2005.

At the Park Sheraton's Residency a lunch and dinner buffet (December 24 and 25) includes turkey and an extra large spread of desserts. At Cappuccino, a table d' hote dinner awaits guests. For reservations, call 24994101. Meanwhile, at Chola Sheraton, there will be carol singing and angel dancing in The Lobby on December 24 and 25. Sagari offers a Christmas Eve turkey dinner on December 24 from 8.00 p.m. till midnight. Sheraton Plus card-holders are entitled to a special rate.
Shanghai Club offers a special Christmas buffet lunch on December 25 from 12.30 p.m. to 2.45 p.m., with Christmas fare, at site carvings and special desserts, to the accompaniment of music by the `Revivers'. Café Mercara offers Christmas goodies, cakes and hampers till December 31. Customised orders can be taken with prior notice. For reservations, call 28110101.
The Ellements club will celebrate Christmas with some special children today at The Park (7 p.m. to 11.30 p.m.). You can join the fun by bringing some goodies as gifts for these kids.
