Running into M.S. at Queens

I WAS in New Jersey with my brother's family. One morning my brother compelled me to attend a family function at Queens, New York. Function over, all of us drove to a Hindu temple.

As was customary, my sister-in-law Kamala sang a devotional song in front of the deity. She was about to start but then a group of three persons entered the temple. Leading the group was none other than M.S. Subbulakshmi. The group sat down on the floor facing the deity and the inimitable M.S. rendered "Bhaja Govindam".We were all enraptured and lost track of time and place. The gentleman who brought M.S. to the temple was a high official at the U.N. He introduced all of us as Bangaloreans who frequented her concerts. This episode remains evergreen in my memory.
