TELUGU

Mass... Aditya

Music... Rs. 38...

DEVISRI PRASAD'S music has come as a whiff of fresh air when the Telugu music was on the path of losing its melodious past. His genre of music reminded one of the glorious revival of melody in Bollywood in the late '80s when Nadeem-Shravan and Anand-Milind came up with pleasing tunes. After some superb films, is he losing out? That question props up if one listens to the music of Mass.

His first film with Nagarjuna, Manmadhudu had fresh tunes. But Mass certainly is not in that class and sounds more like the film's title. It has some catchy tunes but the beats and tunes sound stale. That magic of Devisri Prasad is certainly missing even though Nagarjuna's fans might enjoy a couple of them. The first number, Anna Nadichoste Mass, Anna Ninchunte Mass is racy and sounds like the title number of Shankar Dada MBBS.

Vaalu Kalla Vayyari is breezy and appealing. Perhaps, it is the best in the album tune wise. Lyrics by Bhaskarbatla add value to the number. The Indrudu number may not invite the attention immediately but picks up the rhythm in the middle with foot tapping beats. Kottu Kottu reminds of a popular Hindi film number in parts and offers nothing new. La La Lahirey too is racy and the orchestra is used well to make Nag's young fans happy.

Naatho Vastava is the run-of-the-mill kind. If the fans are expecting Devisri Prasad to recreate the magic of Manmadhudu, they are disappointed. Yet, Nag's fans can go ahead and buy.
