It's party time again

New Year is round the corner. And the city's already rocking. MetroPlus checks out what's lined up to herald 2005 in style

WILD PARTY animals with happening nightlife! Gear up for parties, parties and more parties. Gluttons! Be ready for exotic foods and drinks from the world over. Get your act together to salsa and samba the night away. And to load those shopping bags with goodies for yourself, family and friends. Here's a checklist of some of the awesome parties rocking Bangalore this New Year's Eve and Day.

The Oberoi (Ph: 25585858): Wine, dine and dance at any of their restaurants on New Year's Eve. Le Jardin offers a Western, Indian and Thai speciality buffet with unlimited pour of selected beverages. Southern Ivory (live band) and DJ Navin will play popular numbers. Szechwan Court and Rim Naam offer Chinese and Thai cuisine, unlimited pours, and piped music with dance floor. Polo Club offers platters at its tandoor and tawa counters with unlimited pours. DJ Ankush plays lounge music. (Rs. 6,000 per couple). On January 1, Le Jardin offers a buffet spread with unlimited pour of sparkling wine at Rs. 1,200.

ITC Hotel Windsor Sheraton and Towers (Ph: 22269898): Five exotic parties, dubbed Windsor Xotica, are on for New Year's Eve. A Salsa De La Vida with a Latin dance troupe; the band Under Cover will be at the pool deck along with an Indian and Euro-American buffet (starting at Rs. 5,000 per couple). The Regency hosts Risqué Encounter, war of the DJs with DJ Deej and Tyran. Wash world cuisine down with lots of beer (Rs. 3,500 per couple). Irish Medley will play at the Dublin with cocktails and mocktails (no entrance fee for this one!). Dakshin will host Carnatic Odyssey, a quiet sit-down dinner with a percussion and Bharatanatya performance (Rs. 2,000 per head). Jashn-E-Darbar is a sit-down dinner with S. Raj playing golden oldies on the piano (Rs. 2,000 per head).

The Park (Ph: 25594666 ext: 5070/ 5010): On December 31, club dancers from the U.K. and techno music will rock i-Bar and Poolside. (Rs. 5,000 per couple, Rs. 3,000 per head, inclusive of unlimited heavy snacks, liquor and wine.) A five-course meal and a bottle of wine at your table is what you'll find at i-Talia. (Rs. 5,000 per couple, Rs. 3,000 per head.) At the Monsoon and Lobby, DJs keep you grooving all night along with The Scintillating Dance Troupe from the U.K. Price, including buffet dinner at Monsoon and unlimited beverages, is Rs. 4,000 per couple, Rs. 2,500 per head. A Kiddy Zone at The Blue Box will play cartoon movies and host fun-filled games (Rs. 500 per child, including dinner. There are premium packages for those who want to party hop within The Park.

Taj Residency (Ph: 56604444): Trinity Hall has Impulse, an exotic dance troupe from Kiev, and DJ Akshay. (Rs. 7,500 per couple, Rs 4,000 per accompanying single.) At Café Mozaic, enjoy limbo dance, fire-eaters, acrobats, and fireworks, with DJ Ronnie rocking. (Rs. 6,000 per couple, Rs. 3,500 per accompanying single.) There's a Champagne Brunch on January 1 from 11.30 a.m., at Rs. 1,000 per head. The Filipino troika Charisma will croon at Memories of China (Rs. 4,500 per couple, Rs. 2,500 per accompanying single, and Rs. 1,500 for children aged between six and 12 years). Discounts if you book early.

Taj Gateway (Ph: 56604545): The Great Cuisine Adventure is on at Potluck Café. On December 27, the theme is Asia, it's Italian on December 28, Indian on December 29, Lebanese buffet on December 30, and on December 31 is Table de Hote, an exclusive set menu for lunch and dinner with a combination of all cuisines.

Taj West End (Ph: 56605660 ext 3307): A countdown to New Year in the '70s style is on at the Mynt with dance, drinks, and music, a buffet of appetisers, entrees and desserts (Rs. 5,000 per couple). New Year's Day brunch with champagne, wine, beer and cocktails is Rs. 825. Taj Kuteeram (Ph: 28466326): A choice of gourmet Continental and Indian cuisines low on calories with a blend of organic elements is on offer. Lunch/dinner is priced at Rs. 625. A special package offers a standard double room for Rs. 4,852 and a suite double room for Rs. 7,092.

The Leela Palace (Ph: 25211234 extn 1340): Citrus has a dinner buffet spread, desserts and spirits, with Avril Quadros and band. Indian food ranging from Avadhi to Chettinad to the sounds of blended Carnatic, Hindustani, and folk music is on at Jamavar. Haute cuisine from all over the Orient with DJ Clement's music is at Zen. (All Rs. 3,500 per head.) The Library Bar serves cocktails, champagne and snacks at a cover charge of Rs. 2,000 per head. The Royal Club offers a set menu at Rs. 2,950 per head. The Champagne Room offers smoked salmon, goose liver and more, with wine for groups (Rs. 1,20,000 for 12 guests). The Royal Ballroom will be turned into a discotheque with Buddha Bar DJ lounge and music by DJ Chico. Lebanese, Greek, Irani, and Hyderabadi food is on offer. Dinner with beverages is priced at Rs. 4,500 per person. Chelsea Plumley's cabaret is on at The Grand Ballroom where salads and flambés add to the fire (Rs. 4,500 per person). New Year day brunches are available too.

Le Meridien (Ph: 22262233): A poolside New Year's Eve barbeque with candlelight, bonfires, mashals and wine comes at Rs. 999 per person. The evening at La Brasserie, accompanied by Indian cuisine, desserts, wine, and games, is Rs. 1,900 per head. F-Bar, Insomnia and the Coronet Hall will host high-voltage parties rocked by celebrity DJs.

The Grand Ashok (Ph: 22269462/22250202): Mandarin hosts Pink Champagne and DJ Brett Tanner with a performance by Latino dancers to boot at a redeemable cover charge per person of Rs. 750. 24/7, the fusion food restaurant, will host a candle-lit dinner amidst soft music. The poolside party will have belly dancers, DJ Sash and a livewire band, The Fourth Dimension for Rs. 1,500 per head. An overnight stay package costs Rs. 6,999 per couple.

Golden Palms Hotel and Spa (Ph: 51126911/12 23710001): The poolside has a salsa by Keila Martinez, the Chillers, and an exotic European band with DJ TT, and a buffet spread. Sorrento offers a sit-down dinner with live entertainment and music; Hidden Dragon has a sit-down Chinese dinner, with live entertainment. There are New Year's weekend packages starting at Rs. 24,999 per couple for two nights.
