Going great guns
Adnan Sami and Amisha Patel in New Delhi.
SHE WAS virtually non-existent on the silver screen for the whole of 2004 and he was virtually everywhere, cutting albums, performing in music concerts, judging singing talent and visiting metropolitan cities for one or the other programmes. But they were "great friends since long time" and hence their coming together for a music venture called `Teri Kasam' did not come as a surprise to many who know them closely. Yes, one is talking about the singing sensation Adnan Sami and The Rising girl Amisha Patel. This album has many swaying to Adnan's song and trying steps that Amisha Patel had to take classes of Salsa for, as the character in the song O' Meri Jaan is loosely made on a ballerina.
"I had been closely following Amisha's performances. And we have known each other for more number of years than her performances. While creating this album I had her in mind, so I approached her," says Adnan. "If it wasn't Adnan, I wouldn't have opened up myself for this (album) option. He gave me a platform to perform something I was capable of. My portrayal is so convincingly of a ballerina, and yet so apart from it. Moreover, he is a brand name. Everything was looked into, the budget, the technique, the crew and the content. There is certainly a difference between the classes and the masses. And Adnan is a class act," says Amisha. The lovely duo is at New Delhi's Saraswati Music College to talk about the album and its making.
Yes, there is a certainly a difference; between Adnan and Amisha, apart from their demeanour which is casual and formal, respectively. While Adnan keeps smiling and answers each question tinged with wit and humour; he winks, grins, counter-questions and yet turns the table in his favour while Amisha recoils into her shell; she attempts to keep a distance, seems bugged up when queries are thrown in apart from the press conference, and pretends to be in a hurry. In her quick answers, though, she remains a winner as far as her rich diction goes.
What next?
Adnan is scoring music for a Hindi film called Lucky apart from an album like Lift Kara De, another one on an obsessed lover while Amisha has six films releasing next year, including Vaada, Humko Tumse Pyar Hai and Tathastu.
