Chords & Notes

Thaarakaroopini

Sa Re Ga Ma, Rs. 45.00

This is a tribute to K. P. Brahmanandan, the singer who had the unique distinction of turning every song of his into a remarkable hit.

The 18 songs in the album are handpicked to give a perfect picture of his rich oeuvre. Included are Brahmanandan's big hits like `Tharakaroopini... ' `Manathe kayalil... ' Chandrika charchithamam... ' `Priyamullavale... ' `Indukamalam choodi... ' `Neela nishidini... ' etc. Also included are some of the others that were never heard simply because the others were so popular like `Sree Mahadevan... ' `Chirikkumbol neeoru... ' and `Thanga makudam... ' Brahmanandan's voice is sure to haunt you.

This is a collector's album, something you would love to hear many times over.

Infant Jesus

Jeesa Creations, Rs. 50.00

Peter Cheranellore's Christian devotionals are much sought after. But this must easily be his best to date.

At least eight of the 12 songs in this new album stand out for its sheer beauty of lyrics, music and the quality of the rendering.

The lyrics by Baby John Kalayanthani and six others are most of the time musical. Peter's music, except for a couple of them that still echo of traditional Christian tunes, is fresh and innovative. S. P. Balasubramanim's `Swargiya sneham... ,' with which the album opens is the pick of the lot. P. Jayachandran, K. G. Markose, Biju Narayanan, Kester, M. G. Sreekumar, Manoj, George Peter, Sujatha, Rajalakshmi, Teena, Hema and Baby Nidhi are the other singers who provide variety and pep to the songs.

One singer who stands out is Manoj. His flawless voice makes the song `Snehapithavaam... ' a memorable listening experience. This album is a real good buy.

K. P.
