Matters of heart

Soha speaks about the advantages of being the daughter of Mansur Ali Khan and Sharmila Tagore

YOU MIGHT credit her for a balanced approach to her Hindi, Urdu and English diction. She owes it to her father - she is anyway more a papa's daughter. "My father always preferred to speak in Urdu with us, I studied for four years in England, and my mother kept me in touch with Hindi," Soha Ali Khan recalls .

Soha plays the love interest of Shahid Kapoor in Dil Maange More. Talking about her role in the film, she says, "I play a small town girl who wants to make it big in life, so she lands in Mumbai to become an air hostess but finally realises her folly and goes back to her man."

One might find Soha a little stiff in the film, especially when it comes to dance but Soha says, "I am a newcomer, still unaware of Hindi film nuances," adding, that despite her being Sharmila's daughter, one shouldn't draw comparisons. "My mother is a seasoned actress and I have to learn a lot from her." And she did learn, say for instance, expressions, giving pause between dialogues, dance steps and wearing make-up.

The charming newcomer claims that she is going great guns as far as film offers are concerned. "I don't have to be much choosy because I am getting decent offers from well known filmmakers. Knowing my family background, no one even dares to come to me with an awkward script or roles that are demeaning for an actress. I feel proud and safe that way," chuckles Soha, who however feels that her strong academic background is her strength. "I can always fall back on my academics, just in case, I'm not able to make it here... ," she says. Her next venture is David Dhawan's out and out comedy flick.
