THIS WEEK, let's check out Hotel Balaji International in Gandhipuram. The hotel offers South Indian, North Indian, Chinese and Tandoor items. An added attraction is the availability of Kerala delicacies. "Fish curry meals (Rs.35), appam and kadala kootu curry are very popular," says
P V Manoj Kumar, Food and Beverages Manager. The 75-cover restaurant is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
A 60-cover rooftop restaurant is also open for dinner. Following the routine, you start off with a hot and sour vegetable soup. The soup is watery and comes with finely chopped vegetables. In starters, the Gobi Manchurian manages to retain its chewy feel and also the taste of cauliflower. "Our USP is authentic taste and natural flavours. We avoid using artificial colouring agents," he adds.
The Rumali roti with paneer butter masala is good. The roti goes well with the gravy. And, the paneer is prepared in-house to ensure consistency.
The vegetarian mughlai pulao is a must try. Loaded with dry fruits, the taste of pulao prepared with ghee lingers for long. Onion salad is served as an accompaniment and the pulao comes with egg, which is optional.
The hotel also offers seafood. Choose from prawns pepper curry, kari meen curry, fish Manchurian, prawn Manchurian and more. "Non-vegetarians enjoy prawns and chicken," he adds. In the South Indian menu, the popular items are the dosas, parotta and chapattis. Swede Andrew Birdtown dining at the hotel says: "I liked the onion dosa, uthappam with dahi and sugar. The food items are not spicy and are enjoyable."
"Appam with coconut milk is one of the popular items. The hotel also offers `Janatha meals' (Rs.20), an unlimited vegetarian thali at its `Yamuna Pure Vegetarian Restaurant' for lunch.
To round off the meal, we opt for a special mocktail with ice cream. The mixture of fruit juices and vanilla and strawberry ice cream makes for an enjoyable experience. For bookings, call 249355, 2497001.
