The 40th monthly schedule of Sahitya Surabhi last Sunday featured a book release function. The book was `Oosula Ooyala', an anthology of short essays covering a variety of topics by `Bharatibhushana' Rambhatla Nrusimha Sarma.
The book was released by the Station Director of All India Radio, K.V. Hanumantha Rao, after the former Mayor and ex-Chairman of the Bar Council of India, D.V. Subba Rao, lit the lamp. The Surabhi president, Vriddhula Kalyana Rama Rao, chaired the session. C.S. Rao received the first copy.
The Prema Hosspital managing director, S.V. Adinarayana Rao, ther retired Additional Superintendent of Police, R.V. Raju, Acharya Saarvabhouma Vedula Subrahmanya Sastry and the Vijayabhaavana founder-member, A. Gopala Rao (Vizianagaraam), were the guests of honour.
Prof. Sastry and Mr. Gopala Rao were not only all praise for the distinctive feature of creative writing of Rambhaaatla, with which he is identified, but also gave a critical appraisal of the contents of the book, a compilation of 50 short essays explicatively dealing as many topics of entirely different attributes.
Rambhatla, known for his gift of gab besides charming finesse, self evolved skills transforming it into attractive oratory and technique of adorning it in turn with magical play of pun on the syllables making them sound witty and funny or slightly sarcastic and satarical even, no wonder understandably nurtured an ability of arresting the attention of any audience anywhere instantly and keep them spell bound as long as he speaks. He admits that he owes the credit for all this to the multitude of opportunities that came his way as an announcer to come on the air dealing a variety of topics as part of the 'Prabhata Manjeeraalu' and 'Udaya Sameeraalu' broadcast almost every day by AIR, Visakhapatnam. There may be many an instance of the likes of him but he remains singular in not throwing away the prepared topic in writing in the dustbin immediately after the broadcast. He preserves it carefully and makes a short but more searching essay out of it the same night embellishing it with thought provoking pep and pun. He already compiled such essays selectively into book form and published them with different titles, Usha Tushaaraalu, Swaraalu Sowrabhaalu, Annamayya Keertanala Vyakhyanam, Telisi Ramachintana, Peru-Pratishta and Pun`dugula fun`dillu.
'Oosula Ooyala' is the seventh in the series of such publications in as many years.
A member on the Telugu faculty in BVK College, D.V. Surya Rao, was the master of the ceremony. The function concluded on an exhilarating note with the offering of felicitations to C.S. Rao by the author and vice versa.
