A stamp design competition on the subject, "Festivals or celebrations" for school children was conducted by the Department of Posts recently. Sixty students participated in the contest.
K. Sandhya, Md. Jamsher Alam and Ch. Ramya of Sri Vivekananda High School, Sriharipuram, bagged the first, second and third prizes respectively.
The Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, P.V. Subba Rao, distributed prizes and certificates to the participants at a function held recently.

The children of Olivet School gave a lecture-cum-slide presentation on `Indian heritage and culture' as part of the educational activities planned by the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training, Government of India.
The former Director of the Ambedkar Open University, D.S.N. Murthy, highlighted the importance of human values.

A week-long sports carnival conducted by the Delhi Public School, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, concluded recently.
The Director (personnel), Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, K.A. Naidu, stressed on the importance of true sportsmanship and healthy competition. The Additional General Manager (TA & CP), M.V.N.K. Rao and the Principal of the Zinc Smelter School, K.S. Anand, participated as guests of honour.
About 35 volunteers of the Environment Club of DPS planted saplings in and around their school campus as part of the tree plantation programme recently. An awareness programme highlighting the need for segregation of bio-degradable and non-biodegradable garbage was also conducted.
Pooja Dua, Pranavi Dasari, Prema Bishnoi and Malay Tripathi of DPS attended the Model UN conducted by the United Nations Association of USA in New Delhi during the first week of December.
The trophy for the best paper was won by Prema Bishnoi.

The silver jubilee annual day celebrations of Ramnath Secondary School of NSTL was held recently. The children showcased the rich and varied heritage of India through various cultural programmes. A Hindi playlet, `Karmabhoomi' highlighted the altruistic spirit of Indians through an episode of Alexander's invasion of India. Another playlet highlighted the importance of blood donation. The folk and classical dance numbers were a visual treat.
The central theme of the show was woven around patriotism. The NSTL Director, K. Satyanarayana, the Associate Director, K. Kondala Rao, the school principal, C.V. Narasimham, the secretary of the NSTL Educational Society, S. Nagamalleswara Rao, and the former Rector of Andhra University, Prasanna Kumar, spoke.
Karuna Satyanarayana gave away prizes to meritorious students.
