Scrabble fun

Scrabble enthusiasts scramble to participate in the forthcoming tournament in the city



Corporate executives and kids participated enthusiastically in the pre-tournament competition.

SCRABBLE IS what one would term as a mind-sport, which promotes logical thinking and analytical ability like chess. The game developed during the depression in America and is a very popular around the world, and gaining in popularity in India also.

.iGATE Global, a software firm has supported the sport here since 2003, when it first sponsored an open national tournament in Bangalore in 2003, It subsequently conducted an international event in Mumbai in February 2004 and it has plans for another international meet in Bangalore, which is slated to be held on January 14 and 15. About 40 international participants are expected for the meet.

As a prelude to the mega event, iGATE , along with the Karnataka Scrabble Association conducted a two day tournament for corporates and the general public at the Karnataka Badminton Association over the weekend.

The first tournament was for corporates and some of blue chip companies that took part in the championship include Infosys, Lucent Technologies, Symphoni, ICICI, HCL, Nestle and 3 Amigos. The 3 Amigos team emerged as the champion, followed by SCT Software Solutions and Lucent Technologies.

In the second tournament, which was held exclusively for the public, Aditi won the title while Abdul Rehman and Prasanna finished second and third respectively.
