Blow hot, blow cold

Around the time the tsunami wreaked havoc in the Indian Ocean, a few other insignificant events also made headlines. One was the news that it had snowed in the United Arab Emirates and that there were reports of grass growing in Antarctica. Though these two phenomena were more or less ignored by the media, climate experts and environmentalists were quick to offer them as proof that the earth's climate was changing. They pointed out that these events were in sync with the Malidivian Government's claim that the islands were sinking due to rising oceans. To further substantiate this claim, the British Government now plans to erect a new 10-mile flood barrier across the Thames to save London if sea levels rise. So is the climate really changing

It is no big deal. There is no reason to worry because there is nothing much wrong. The pollution is a nuisance but I don't think it affects anything. People will soon get over it.

I don't think that the climate has changed at all. Yes, it is very cold now but it is the winter. We live on the Deccan Plateau, so I don't think we have to worry. But we must stop pollution because it is very harmful.

The summers are warmer. It is because there are less number of trees now. You feel the chill when you walk under a tree. I think we must seriously plant more trees. They are very cheap to plant.

The summers are hot and the winters very cold. The rainfall fluctuates wildly. It either rains heavily or doesn't rain at all. It is very difficult to explain this to people. The Government must act fast.

I feel the climate has been the same. The winters are a bit colder but I feel there has been no significant change. But I am concerned by the amount of air pollution. We must use public transport more to conserve fossil fuel.

Bangalore is definitely becoming hotter. Greenery is making way for concrete. Large number of people are migrating here. We must develop satellite towns and plant more trees.

India is most polluted place I have travelled to. You must first set up a recycling system. The amount of garbage on the streets is bad. You must send children around the world to see the difference.

It is a global phenomenon. The climate is changing. The Government has no monitoring facility. People should be more aware of this phenomenon and they are the ones who must initiate action.

Things are not the way it used to be. The climate is so warm now; it is not like the days of our youth. It is global trend, which is happening here also. I think we must address this issue very seriously.
