Tiger trail

CONTINUING THEIR wildlife film series, Sathyam Cinemas and Ecotone in collaboration with Odyssey, are screening a wildlife film on January 29, 9.30 a.m. at Sathyam theatre.

The programme titled "A morning with wildlife filmmakers" will showcase two films of the wildlife cameraman Alphonse Roy, who will be present at the venue for an interaction with the audience.

The two films to be screened are "Bandhavgarh — India's Temple of the Tiger" and "The Great Cats of India." Directed by Harry Marshal of Icon Films, U.K., Alphonse has wielded the camera for both the films. "Bandhavgarh — India's Temple of the Tiger" follows the story of the tigress Bacchi and her new-born cubs, a tiger family living in the forests of Bandavgarh. The tigers have to live through the rivalry between the grown-up son of Bacchi, the powerful B1 and his grandfather, an old tiger called Charger. The cats share their kingdom with the lone reminder of Bandhavgarh's human past — a Hindu priest now approaching 80. He lives alone on the plateau in the crumbling palaces with only the extended family of tigers as companions. The film was shot over a year and has some stunning visuals of tiger behaviour.

"The Great Cats of India" is a film about Alphonse Roy as he goes on a personal quest to track four species of India's big cats — the tiger, Asiatic lion, leopard and the snow leopard. Moving from the Himalayas to the Gir Forest and then to the forests of south India, chasing these elusive felines and reliving his adventures as he films them, Alphonse takes us on a journey through India's great wilderness.

Passes are available at Odyssey (24402264/65), Ecotone, T. Nagar (24315934) and Sathyam Cinemas. As part of the event, WWF and other related wildlife merchandise are available for sale at Odyssey, Adyar and ECR till January 31.
