Library for kids

A FUN library where children's books share space with CDs and learning material and where science experiments and quizzes will reign has opened in Shankarapuram. Sri Sharda Peetham, Sringeri, Rotary club and Hippocampus have come together to set up Shankara Rotary Hippocampus, a library for children. This library functions from Ranga Rao Road, near Bull Temple Road, Shankarapuram.

The Shankara Rotary Hippocampus has a collection upwards of 2,500 books and 150 children's CD titles available. Four computers will be available for children to play on. The members of this library also have access to the Hippocampus collection of 7,000 books that includes fiction, educational material, non-fiction, comics and a whole lot of child friendly material. The CD collection includes the most popular games and a whole variety of educational CDs for all age groups. Umesh Malhotra founder of Hippocampus said: " We have always aimed at inculcating the reading habit among children through various activities at Hippocampus Reading Foundation. This association will help us reach more children and add a new facet to our endeavour."

The library will also conduct workshops for children. Some of the workshops on the anvil include chess, aero-modelling and art workshops. Shankara Rotary Hippocampus (SRH) library is open to children above three years. This makes the library affordable to most sections of society. Membership for a month with unlimited access to books starts at Rs. 50 per month. Contact 26678890.
