AT THE age of 12 he took his first step into the world of creative arts when he got an opportunity to participate in a theatre workshop at the Kamani auditorium, little realising that this would be instrumental in shaping his career. "Though I had opted for an engineering degree in college and had ample job opportunities I could not ignore the nagging voice in my head and decided to follow my intuition, which led me to televisionadvertisements, animation movies, documentary films, etc.," says Sachin Gupta, Director of the play "Celebration of Life."
Trying to depict his character's attitude towards life, Sachin says, "This story is more or less of my cousin's life and through the character Chetna, a good dancer whose life ends before it could blossom, I have shown the harsh realities of life."
Human emotions
Sachin maintains the play explores a gamut of human emotions - joy and sorrow, victory and failure, dreams and hopes. "The character is afflicted with the dreaded disease of cancer and doesn't have too many days to live, yet her heart lies in dancing and she dreams to be the best and win a grand competition before it is too late. Ignoring the counsel of family, friends and doctors, she finally enters the dance competition. For her it is not participation that matters, it's winning that is more important because she knows it is the only shot she will ever get."
After managing advertisement films for the Hero Honda group, Hawkins and conceptualising and designing multimedia presentations for GARTEX (Garment and Textile Exhibition), Sachin moved to TV 18 as production and set designer for serials like Haadsa and Khauff on SABe TV and also worked as an assistant producer on travel show Musafir Hoon Yaron on Star Plus.
Talking about his future plans, he informs, "I am doing this play in French in April. It is called "La celebration de la vie". I am also working on a specialised theatre magazine which will be out by next week. It is basic and is about different forms of theatre like college theatre and international theatre. My main objective is to encourage theatre lovers andpeople who wantto make their career in theatre besides creating awareness about theatre."
