Flying high

MARTIN SCORSESE'S The Aviator is a biopic on the playboy movie mogul Howard Hughes. Golden boy Leonardo Di Caprio stars as Hughes in the film. Concentrating on the golden years of Hollywood, the film focuses on Hughes' life between the 1920s and 1940s. The film chronicles Hughes' making of the movie Hells Angels when he was only 25 as well as his amorous adventures with Jean Harlow (Gwen Stefani), Ava Gardner (Kate Beckinsale) and Katherine Hepburn (Cate Blanchett). The film clocking almost three hours, is the hottest contender in the Oscar race this year.

Theatre: Prasads

Mystic River (English)

CLINT EASTWOOD is in the Oscar race this year with Million Dollar Baby, while last year his Mystic River earned two Oscar statuettes - Best Actor for Sean Penn and Best Supporting Actor for Tim Robbins. The film tells the story of three friends who drifted apart because of horrific episode. A violent murder brings the friends together and as they go down a path fraught with dangerous knowledge, the journey becomes increasingly perilous.

Theatre: Sterling

Jurm (Hindi)

VIKRAM BHATT directs this thriller. One cannot trace the source at a cursory glance. Bobby Deol plays Avinash a rich tycoon accused of murdering his wife (Lara Dutta). Milind Soman is Rohit, Avinash's friend and lawyer who is fighting his case. There are convoluted twists and turns with guilt resting with one and then the other. Vikram Bhatt's Elaan did not do particularly well wonder what's in store for this tale of revenge, love and betrayal.

Theatres: Venkatramana, Sangeet

Zameer (Hindi)

VIKRAM BHATT'S muse Amisha Patel appears in this tale of obsessive love. She plays Pooja who falls in love with her professor Suraj Chauhan (Ajay Devgan). Suraj, however, is in love with Supriya (Mahima Choudhary - where was she all these years?) who is differently abled. When Pooja realises her love is unrequited, loses it big time and then the fun starts. Directed by Kamal, the film has music by Jatin and should not under any circumstances by confused with 1975 Amitabh Bachchan starrer of the same name!

Theatres: Maheswari, Skyline, Anand

Sankranti (Telugu)

VEKATESH PLAYS the big brother in this `family entertainer'. A remake of Tamil Anandam, the film boasts of an interesting star cast - Srikanth, Arati Agarwal, Sneha and Kalyani share the limelight with Venkatesh. Watch out for some great family sentiment and good music.

Theatres: Odeon, Prashant, Satyam
