Kathakali extravaganza
TWO FULL nights of Kathakali performances, Cholliatam competition for students and the presentation of the Kalahamsam Puraskaram and Thouryathrikam Puraskaram will be the highpoints of the Ernakulam Kathakali Club's annual programmes to be held on February 25 and 26 at the Ernakulathappan Hall.
The Kalahamsam Puraskaram for the most outstanding actor of 2004 will be presented to Inchakkad Ramachandran Pillai. The Thouryathrikam Puraskaram for the best chenda artiste will be awarded to Kalamandalam Raman Namboodiri. The awards will be given away at a special function to be held on February 25 at 7 p.m. Poothanamokasham by Kottakkal Sivaraman, and Balivijayam will follow this. Nalacharitham 2nd Day and Narakasuravadham will be held after these performances. Sadanam Krishnankutty, Nelliode Vasudevan Namboodiri and others will take part.
On the second day the two important plays that will be performed are Kalyanasougandhikam and Duryodhanavadham. Inchakkad Ramachandran Pillai, Madavoor Vasudevan Nair, Kalamandalam Srikumar are some of the eminent artistes who are expected to don various roles. The evening will begin with Kalakeyavadham by Kumari Sruthi and Nalacharitham 4th Day in which Kalamandalam Balasubramaniam, Margi Vijayakumar and Kalamandalam Shanmukhan will play the main roles. Almost all the top singers like Kalamandalam Hyder Ali, Kalanilayam Unnikrishnan, Kalamandalam Subramaniam, Palanad Divakaran and others will perform in the company of eminent chenda and maddalam artistes like Kuroor Vasudevan Namboodiri, Kalamandalam Raman Namboodiri, Kalamandalam Narayanan Nair.
