Comedian turns villain

RADHIKA SARATKUMAR, producer, and Sundar K. Vijayan, director of "Chelvi" on Sun TV (Monday-Friday 9.30 p.m.) have taken a bold step by casting comedian M. S. Bhaskar as the villain in the serial. Bhaskar plays Andavan, the business partner of Selvi's father (played by Ravikumar) who cheats him and usurps his wealth. Till now, M. S. Bhaskar was better known as Pattabhi of "Chinna Papa Periya Papa", with his superb comedy timing providing the laughs. Says Bhaskar: "I believe that nothing is impossible. Switching from comic role to villain in "Chelvi" was due to the faith that the director and producer reposed in me". "Chelvi" has given Bhaskar new recognition, as he is the only actor after Nagesh to have successfully switched over from comic to villain's role with ease and style. And Bhaskar's only aim is to be known as a modern-day S. V. Ranga Rao, the late character artiste, who excelled in different roles.
