Ringing in changes
|
THE FIRST mobile phone, which people affectionately called `the brick', is now all but a distant memory. Today's phones come in all shapes, sizes and colours. They have all kinds of gizmos like cameras, music players, and even torches. But one thing remained the same: if you called any mobile you would still hear the familiar tring-tring. But now smart-ass engineers have found a way to even change that. Caller tunes are the in thing but you have to pay for the privilege. You call someone and you hear either a nice song or a stupid-accented voice asking you to be patient till the person picks up the phone. So, do people really want the tring-tring to go away? ANAND SANKAR finds out.

I don't think it is essential. As long as you can receive a call it doesn't matter what tone is being played.

It is good. I am bored with just the tring-tring. It is new technology so it is something different that one can enjoy. It should be free.

It is good. If you have a girlfriend you can have a romantic tune when she calls. It livens things up and makes people happy.

I find the tunes pretty enjoyable. It's definitely better than the usual engaged or the ringing tone. If you want something different you have to pay for it.

It depends on the users and how they feel about using it. It helps because I can keep separate tunes for each person. But I wouldn't like to pay for it.

I hate them. They are so stupid and useless. For so many years you are used to hearing only the tring-tring. That is enough I feel.

It depends on the situation. It kind of livens up the day. It can be used to brighten up a dull day. But it should remain free.

Caller tunes are not necessary when you have such good ring tones available. The important thing is that the call must connect, tune does not matter.

I use caller tunes a lot. I change them five to six times a day. I mainly use them as a motivational tool that can cheer up people when they call.
