THESE DAYS, leading Tamil directors are becoming producers, seeing the moolah the heroes are making. Noted director Bala is turning producer with his film "Mayaavi" featuring Surya and Jyothika, the hottest pair in tinsel town. The film is said to be a romantic comedy about a tourist guide who kidnaps a leading actress (Jyothika plays herself)! This fun movie, slated for release during the Valentine weekend (February 11), was delayed, as they were still picturising a song in Pollachi! The release was postponed to March 4 though the latest we hear is that it has been pushed further to March 18 or 25. The important thing that producer Bala has to learn is to stick to the scheduled date of release. But why blame Bala alone, as this is the problem with 90 per cent of producers in Tamil. According to the trade, March is not a good month for release due to exams and the India-Pakistan cricket series. The audio of the film that has some peppy music by Telugu music director Devi Sri Prasad had a soft launch and the trailers are yet to appear on satellite channels.
