Mummenschanz Next, a mask theatre programme from Switzerland, comes to Chennai
|
IN RECENT times a lot of experimental theatre has been happening in the city; some of it involving local groups, and some involving groups from outside the country.
Prakriti Foundation is involved in the presentation of Mummenschanz Next, a unique Swiss mask theatre programme, on March 12 at 6.30 p.m. at the Chinmaya Heritage Centre, Harrington Road. Mummenschanz Next is the latest evolution of the wordless theatrical form that was invented by the original Mummenschanz trio in 1972. Since that time, Mummenschanz has continued to devise from everyday materials the expressive shapes and creations that have become its signature. With a good dose of fun and imagination, this theatrical form has transcended the barriers of language and nationality and has a universal appeal.
Mummenschanz Next is about figures that can be broken down and built up again, and it combines organic and geometric elements. John Murphy and Raffaella Mattioli have joined hands with the founders Bernie Schurch and Floriana Frassetto to stage this production in Chennai.
This form of theatre will particularly appeal to the hearing impaired. For details, call 94441 54281.
