Go on a health trip with these easy green gram recipes

Sprouts can be used to make various low calorie snacks

GRAMS ARE great sources of protein and make wonderful low calorie snacks. Here's what you can do with moong sprouts (green gram).

Moong sprouts wada

Ingredients:

Moong sprouts - 150 gm
Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
Salt - to taste
Chopped green chillies - 1tsp
Chopped tomatoes - 2 tsp
Chopped ginger - 1 tsp
Water - 40 ml
Oil - to fry
Besan - 30 gm
Chopped onions - 2 tbsp

Method:

Coarsely grind the moong sprouts. Add salt, red chilli powder, chopped onions, chopped tomatoes, chopped coriander, chopped ginger, besan and water to form a thick batter. Beat the batter till it becomes fluffy. Take small portions and deep fry in oil like wada. Serve hot with mint chutney.

Waffles

Ingredients:

Moong sprouts - 150 gm
Salt - to taste
Ginger garlic paste - 15 gm
Green chilli (chopped) - 1 tsp
Besan - 2 tbsp
Methi leaves (chopped) - 1tsp
Water - 50 ml

Method:

Coarsely grind all the ingredients in a mixer. Add besan to bind all the ingredients. Place the mixture in the waffle machine and cook for 5 minutes. Check if done and serve hot with mint or tomato chutney.

Kadi

Ingredients:

Moong sprouts -150 gm

Curd - 50 gm
Salt - to taste
Turmeric powder - 5 gm
Red chilli powder - 5 gm
Besan - 30 gm
Rai seeds - 1 tsp
Fenugreek seeds - 1 tsp
Kalonji - 1 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Oil - 2 tbsp
Water - 100 ml

Method:

Mix besan, water, curd, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt and cook it for some time till the sourness of the curd goes away. Now add the sprouts to the prepared kadi and again simmer it for five minutes. Make a tempering of rai, fenugreek, kalonji and cumin and pour it on the kadi. Serve hot garnished with rogan.

Sprouts masala

Ingredients:

Moong sprouts - 150 gm

Chopped onions - 30 gm
Chopped tomatoes - 30 gm
Salt - to taste
Red chilli powder - ½ tsp
Turmeric powder - ¼ tsp
Ginger (chopped) - 1 tsp
Green chilli (chopped) - 1 tsp
Oil - 1 tbsp

Method:

In a pan sauté the chopped onions till they become transparent. Add the chopped green chillies, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, chopped ginger, and chopped tomatoes and cook for some time. Finally add the moong sprouts. Adjust the seasoning and the dish is ready. Serve hot garnished with chopped coriander.
