ON THE occasion of Mahasivaratri (March 8), WorldSpace Satellite Radio presents its first live event in the city "Namaha Shankara", an ode to Lord Siva, at 6.30 p.m., at Sathguru Gnanananda Hall, Narada Gana Sabha, 314, TTK Road.
Namaha Shankara will have Madurai T. N. Seshagopalan in concert, accompanied by Thanjavur Murugabhoopathi on the mridangam, V. V. Ravi on the violin and Sundarkumar on the kanjira.
Through the concert these artistes will depict the multifarious forms of Lord Siva, and intersperse it with interesting interpretations by Seshagopalan.
While WorldSpace's radio stations play the best of music across genres, `WorldSpace Live' brings you a series of live musical events that celebrate the versatility and lasting appeal of quality music.
These will include album launches, informal tete-a-tetes with artistes, individual performances and workshops in an attempt to bring music and artistes closer to music lovers.
WorldSpace Satellite Radio has two 24-hour radio stations dedicated to Indian classical music, namely Shruti (Carnatic) and Gandharv (Hindustani). The programming mix of these channels has not only stimulating content for connoisseurs but also programmes that cater for beginners and lay listeners.
