About thy neighbour
ACCESS TO nuclear weapons, political instability and deep-seated economic and social problems have made Pakistan the focus of global attentions.
It's military ruler, Gen. Pervez Musharraf is the first Pakistani leader in three decades to dare confront the country's Islamic extremists. The author, a former BBC correspondent in Pakistan, assesses the role of the nationalists in the provinces, the feudal landlords in the countryside and the bureaucratic elite in Islamabad and analyses the complex relationships between religion, regional politics and the armed forces. The book has been rated the most up-to-date account on Pakistan available today.

ANNIE BESANT was married at the age of 19 to Rev. Frank Besant. An independent spirit, her husband ordered her to leave home when she questioned the religion she and her family practised. Rejecting Christianity, she joined the Secular Society and learned about theosophy.

The same year she was elected head of The Theosophical Society. Outstanding orator, reformer, humanist and educationist, Annie Besant continues to inspire thousands of men and women the world over.
