Bedazzled

Young men and women from the city comprise this lively dance troupe.

Lively performances

THEY WILL dazzle you. The dance troupe, Dazzlers, that has been performing across Kerala at several events. And you will see them along with actor Arun in the forthcoming Malayalam film November Rain. For the 23 members of this young group, all below the age of 25 it has been a journey of hard work and dedication.

These young and energetic dancers of Kochi have the knack of making even the most complicated movements look effortless. Be it a classical performance, an acrobatic sequence or a cinematic dance item, these lively boys and girls have it all to sweep the audience off their feet in a jiffy. "We are a group of 23 dancers and dancing is a passion with each one of us," admits Uttara, a young professional danseuse, who also manages the troupe.

She had a little trouble convincing her parents to let her dance on stage to entertain others.

New step

"A few years back it was a rare sight for girls to be dancing on modern dance sequences along with boys. But things are changing and the audience is more receptive now". She agrees that her chosen profession demands strict discipline and long hours. "With so many new peppy songs coming up everyday, we barely get enough time to have the choreography in place", she adds.

For Srijit, who is 22- years- old and the youngest of them all, dance is an obsession. Having performed in schools, it was his dream to join Dazzlers. He borrowed Rs. 500 from his mother and promised to stop pursuing his fad and return the money in a month's time if he could not make it. Within a week he managed to impress the master (his name sake, Mr. Srijit) and gave his first professional performance the week after.

Modern

"All our dances are very modern and have energetic steps. Our props and costumes add to the liveliness of the dances", he says. "Sometimes the movements look so tough but together we try to make it easier for each other. We have to practice a lot for perfect synchronisation between all the performers". Their young dance master, 33-year-old; Mr. Srijit makes it all very possible. He takes care of everything, from choosing the songs, the choreography to the costumes.

It's a whole lot of hard work and fun for these youngsters. Travelling and performing all over the State and the Middle Eastern countries, they have carved a niche of being the youngest professional dance troupe in Kerala. Their choreographies set to Dhoom machale, Toxic, Back Street Boys; the acrobatic dance sequences are the most popular ones.
