Watch while they play

Yes, it's possible thanks to Magic Hat, at Satyam Cinema, which is equipped to look after children

MOTHERHOOD IS not only an overwhelming experience, but also takes much of your time. But if you thought self-indulgent shopping trips, parties, theatre, movies, Brad Pitt and Madhavan will have to wait till your `dahlin' little one is old enough to accompany you, think again. Now you can take a guilt-free cine break, while your little one is fussed over.

Magic Hat, Chennai's only transit play lounge, has opened at Satyam Cinema. "It is for those who would not like their wards to get engaged in watching films," says Prabha Karthik, director, Magic Hat.

Magic Hat is equipped to look after children, whether they're six months old or 13 years old. They have many things to keep the children engaged — a slide, a ball pit, loads of stuffed toys and more. Babies have cradles to sleep in, in a room that is done up with `starry night' glow wallpaper. There's `Little Orion' — a mini theatre that comes in soft red furnishing with matching cushions and a collection of must-see blockbusters such as "Finding Nemo" and "Bambi". `Pig tales', a library for the intellectually inclined, has Asterix, Tintin and Noddy collections. For bigger boys, there are play stations. You don't even have to run back during the interval to feed your child, as he/she can order popcorn, sandwiches and potato chips from a lounge menu.

Safe and secure

Prabha says Magic Hat, equipped with surveillance cameras, is absolutely safe. The walls come padded, the edges rounded and the doors fitted with finger guards. "Security, safety, cleanliness and hygiene are taken care of," she says.

The Lounge is an absolute delight, planned and executed with a lot of thought, evident in the names of each area, such as `Cookie Jar' for the kitchen, and `Bottoms-up' for a bathroom that comes with a diaper changing area.

It accommodates 25 children at a time for Rs. 125 per child, per movie session. It also caters to shoppers, although priority will be given to theatregoers. The lounge is open from 10 a.m. to 1.00 a.m. or till the end of the last show. Magic Hat can be contacted at 55666777.
