Natalia's new Plus line will cater to bigger women
|
Big is beautiful: The Plus line is all about flattering cuts to fit curves
OVER THE years, the more curvaceous of Natalia's customers have nudged their way through the slim and trim and made space for themselves. And now the clothing brand is giving them special attention. There was a time when the M's sold more, then the L's and now it's the XL's. "Bigger sized outfits have done well for us, of late," says Brand Manager Veena Jaganath.
A `Plus line' of clothing that focusses on flattering cuts has been specially styled and tailored for those ignored by the trendsetters.
"Some trends defy the rules of design for the plus size," says Veena. Small prints could be a little too many and are not advised for a broader frame, the layered look is also a no-no this season.
"Bigger women have the wrong notion that tapered pants compliment their figures; a mild boot that draws attention away from the stomach is a much better option," says Veena. The style tip from Natalia is `long over short or short over long', for example tunics with cropped pants that are a must for women of all shapes and sizes.
Most brands see the world in three sizes: small, medium and large. And those of us who don't fit are hopefully doing our time outside a tailor's. According to Veena, "the dearth of clothing lines for bigger women is probably explained by the lack of any market research that identifies the needs of this segment." It's a sizeable group and growing at that and Natalia "wants to get into it before the bandwagon does".
Natalia will start with eight to ten styles, refine its clothes to the taste of the market before devoting a much larger collection to the Plus Line. You might no longer have to hold your breath and squeeze into that already generous size at retail stores. Or pray that the salesgirl is not being sarcastic when she says "nice and fitting". At Natalia, TTK Road, Alwarpet, they promise to dress you in graceful styles that cost only naturally a little bit more. While the tops range from Rs. 995 to Rs. 1,295, you can buy the trousers for Rs. 1,195 to Rs. 1,595.
