Will "Lucky" prove lucky?

WITH NO big hits and blockbusters, 2005 has not been a good year so far for Hindi films. Bollywood now seems to be banking on Salman Khan's new film "Lucky", which features Ash look-alike Sneha Ullal, to revive its fortunes. Releasing this Friday, "Lucky" will kick start the 2005 summer season. Adnan Sami's music is already a chartbuster, what with the song "Jaan meri ja rahi sanam... " on everybody's lips. The film, directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, was shot entirely in St. Petersburg in Russia in sub-zero temperature. "Lucky" is the maiden feature film of the directors, who had earlier made musical videos. Being a fairytale love story, the setting had to have fairytale elements such as palaces, minarets and spires. So, the choice was St. Petersburg. Salman plays the son of the Indian ambassador to Russia. A playboy, Salman falls in love with an ordinary Indian girl. The lead pair are shown trying to find their way out of St. Petersburg which is under siege in the story. For a change, Salman does not take off his shirt in this film. Anyway, it would have been impossible at minus 18 degree Celsius!
