Longest running serial

THE SOAP that launched a hundred clones and made Balaji Telefilms and Ekta Kapoor a household name, "Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi" on Star Plus, will complete its 1000th episode on April 13. Says Ekta Kapoor: "Kyunki... " is the longest running soap on Indian television. We have written to the "Limca Book of Records", and shortly, we will be writing to the Guinness Book of World Records to make us eligible for the slot." Remember "Kyunki... .", which began on July 1, 2000, was initially promoted by Star Plus as a serial targeted at women? But all that changed after Smriti Irani's character of Tulsi, a Gujarati housewife, struck a chord with Indian viewers. The serial has garnered more TRPs than any other serial on satellite networks. Ekta Kapoor and Star Plus have plans to continue with the serial for another two years! They are planning a 20-year leap in the story from June 2005, which, they feel, will keep the viewer engrossed for some more time. The idea is to make its record difficult to break.
