S.A. KHUDDUS tries new tunes at least for two songs in the film O prema maarindaa chirunama and Gurichoosi golimaro. Perhaps because he is a debutant composer, the fresh feel comes through. Nuvvani nenani rendered by Usha starts the album on a sweet note.
A discovery of R.P. Patnaik, this pride of Andhra has a voice that is soothingly Telugu. Mila mila mila merupu, which rounds off the album, is another nice melody which can be considered for the pick of the album slot.
One thought that crosses your mind while listening to the album does Khuddus belong to the R.P. school of film music? A distinct R.P. touch seems to sweep through the album. And hey, Ravvla ramachilakamma, penned by Sai Sriharsha is actually sung by R.P. Patnaik. Elelo elelo elelo is a folksy song penned by Chaitanyaprasad and rendered by Raviverma, Sundar and Khuddus (another trend where the composers sing their own tunes, or somebody else's). If youngsters want to look for some numbers to tap their feet to, Guri choosi golimaro and Elelo provide the opportunity. Okay on the whole.

Kyaa Kool Hain Hum...
T-Series... Rs. 50
ANU MALIK has gone for a `cool' overkill here. The album starts well with Kyaa Kool Hain Hum. Rendered by Kunal Ganjawala in his now inimitable style. With K.K for good company and Anu Malik lending his trademark punches in between, the song rocks for the party circuit, never mind the pedestrian lyrics. However, the composer and the music company seem so moved by the creation that they have placed the instrumental and the remix version within a space of five songs.
This kills the effect of a better composition Jaago Na, where the music seems inspired by Boney M. Anu has given a free hand to Sunidhi Chauhan and she impresses with her range and malleability. Sowmya Raoh and Gayatri have lent able support.
We Are So Different by Shaan, Sunidhi Chauhan and Kunal Ganjawala is not much different from the ubiquitous pop.
Finally, one has to wait for almost an eternity to listen to Dil Mera (One Night) by Jay Sean considering after Kool, it is the highlight of the album. If music albums could be edited, this seriously needs some.
The Golden Era...
Sa Re Ga Ma... Rs. 100
THIS TWIN cassette offering has Lata Mangeshkar at her sensuous best. Remember Baahon Mein Chale Aa from Anamika? That gem is here again. Similarly, Mukesh's timeless Maine Tere Liye from Anand never fails to convey a feeling of lilt and romance.
Then we have Karvaten Badalte Rahe from Aap ki Kasam and Chura Liya Hai Tumne from Yaadon ki Baraat that catapulted Zeenat Aman to greater heights of stardom. Not to forget Yesu Das's Jan-e-Man, jan-e-Man with Asha Bhonsle. Now add a dash of Kabhi Kabhi and Satyam Shivam Sundaram and the cup of joy brims over.
Yes, music lovers, lay your hands on this offering because it has some of the most lilting songs of 1970s, the decade when melody was queen, that time there was restless energy to music, when soul still resided in lyrics. Go for it.
As much for melody as for the stars. After all, how many times can you get Lata, Rafi, Kishore, Asha, Mukesh and Yesu in one offering?
Nek Aage Aa Shyam tope Rang Daru... V Music... Rs. 35
WHEN A voice is backed by some training in classical music, it invariably leaves its imprint. The same goes for Mridul Krishna Shastri whom you often see on television singing bhajans and rasiya.
The album, which has six Holi songs, is sung by him while music is composed by Vijender Chauhan. It reminds us of the Holi we played in childhood well supported by elders at home. Nainan Me Pichkari is the most euphonic of all the numbers on side A, it even beats the title song. While Aaj Biraj Me Holi Re Rasiya is a slight modification on the famous Holi song with the same words, it is soulful nonetheless.
The use of flute in Rasiya Ko is commendable. Gaurav Krishna Shastri lends his soft voice in Ari Pakdo Ri Brij Naar which needs improvement. Most of the songs are based on Holi as played in Braj in mythological Mathura.
All the numbers in the album meet the Holi mood with near perfection. Though the songs are in Braj Bhasha, they can be easily understood by all.
Did anyone say, music has no language? An apt collection for Holi.
