Back in the reckoning

With `Sada Mee Sevalo' registering rave reviews, Venu is being rediscovered by the industry

WE LIVE in an age when the allure of many leading actors is all on the surface, with a bland, symmetrical, conventionally handsome face offering no hint of an intriguing mind or a history. Venu, on the other hand, is something else. Behind his screen image lies the soul of a thinking man. A talented actor, he knows his craft, and is very serious about his work.

For an average guy off screen, he has such a powerful presence on screen and that's what is very alluring. But his personality and looks alone couldn't cause this kind of frenzy. Watch his films be it Swayamvaram, Chirunavvutho or the recent Sada Mee Seva Lo, every film of his is message oriented, strong and straight. That probably sums up his screen charisma, which is proving to be a powerful box-office draw.

His obsession may not be to reach the heights of stardom, but Venu is definitely committed to provide wholesome and clean entertainers. "It is very important for me to be comfortable with the script and by nature I'm very choosy. I have been experimenting all these years, wish I had played safe. But overall, I feel I have improved a lot over the years and Sada Mee Seva Lo will vouch for that."

Venu urges every like-minded person to watch Sada Mee Seva Lo. He elaborates the USP of the film in his own words. "The hero Tilak has a value background and accordingly he chooses his profession. He runs a bureau called `Sada Mee Seva Lo', offers legal help outside the legal institution, with strong character and idealism he believes that justice delayed is justice denied. I personally believe that this film is a milestone in the history of Telugu film industry. You got to see this film with the mind to get the full effect."

Being someone who is not so much at ease with all the media glare and attention, one wonders what drew him towards the acting profession and the world of showbiz. Unabashedly he exults, "all I've ever wanted to do in my life was become an actor. Everything about it attracted me to this profession. I am passionate about anything and everything connected with this craft. I love the whole atmosphere. The work, the people, the fame, the excitement, I just loved the whole set-up. And that urged me on to join films."

With no controversies or link-ups dogging him, the media today considers him to be a decent guy who does not believe in late nights, partying or pub hopping. Is he for real? "Well, I'm happy to be termed a good, sober guy.

But believe me, that's entirely true. " Ask him if he's been married, he flashes a mischievous grin, evades and then adds as an afterthought. "I'm a god fearing person, I've had a normal upbringing and haven't been a pampered child."
