D-Day is here
Finally after months of animated discussion and exhaustive media coverage, April 14 has arrived with three biggies -- "Chandramukhi", "Mumbai Xpress" and "Sachein". The expectations among the fans and the trade are high. Said `Abhirami' Ramanathan, chief of the Tamil Nadu Exhibitors' Association: "I have not seen this kind of hype ever before which has created tremendous pressure for tickets. My gut feeling is that `Chandramukhi' will be the winner."
The trade feels that even today Rajnikanth is the clear number one by a mile as proved by advance booking worldwide. Another unexplained factor is that it is only in Tamil Nadu that there is such euphoria, curiosity and star worship. It is just two days before the release and not even one song from any film has been telecast on satellite channels. Compare this with a Hollywood or a Bollywood film where the lead cast would have given umpteen interviews to the media with scenes and songs thrown in for added publicity. In the Tamil film industry, it is elusiveness and secrecy that works best for the product. But as Ramanathan says: "It will be all over by this evening by which time the audience would have spotted the winner."
