Music sells

These days, an audio launch of a film is turning out to be one of the main business events in the industry. Invitees, including the trade, media and the lead cast, are present at the launch and in some cases two or more songs from the film are screened.

Last week, producer Thenappan of Rajalakshmi Films had the audio launch of his "Kana Kandein", featuring Srikanth and Gopika. The six songs tuned by Vidyasagar were played, while three among them were screened. "Kana Kandein" is the directorial debut of cinematographer-turned-director K. V. Anand and he took the audience on a visual treat along the beaches of Chennai to Pondicherry. By evening all areas were snapped up by distributors and the film, releasing in May, has suddenly turned out to be one of the hottest films in the circuit.
