Tangerines

Look for: Deep yellow or orange colour and a bright lustre is your best sign of fresh, mature, good-flavoured tangerines. Because of the typically loose nature of tangerine skins, they will frequently not feel firm to the touch.

Avoid: Very pale yellow or greenish fruits, which are likely to be lacking in flavour (although small green areas on otherwise high-coloured fruit are not bad), and tangerines with cut or punctured skins or very soft spots (all signs of decay, which spreads rapidly).
