Summer, It's a cruel Summer!! Nevertheless, with the sweeping blaze come the happy holidays that bring in a new set of desires - to swig a chilled glass of juice or to beat the heat in cool 'n' casual cottons and what not? Bringing in excitement for the city dwellers every summer is the exhibition with its endless array of shops and rides.

The very word 'exhibition' brings to the mind all that you waited for so eagerly right from the beginning of the New Year -- bunch of friends, the lip smacking sugar candy, the crisp and huge Delhi papad and the rides, helping you switch gear and get into a celebration mode.

Yeah! Once again revamped and presented in a new package, it is indisputably the most happening hangout this season. Tickling your senses with a wide variety on display from the regular clothing to the decorative pieces, the place draws all the attention that it deserves. Shelling out money is just another reflex with such choice of goods. There is definitely something that can thrill every set of crowd in this huge fare.

Exciting rides

From the rides that can excite any heart to the flaunt of artefacts in wood and metal that is sure to raise your arty curiosity to the mouth watering food stalls that can satisfy your appetite, the Swaraj Maidan has turned the cynosure of all eyes since the past fortnight.

"I was on top of the world, quite literally. Oh! The thrill I experienced in the fraction of a second when the wheel twirled soaring to a height is worth the entire trip," gleams Hasil, a college student. With kids squealing in anxiety, the place is caught in an air of hubbub that leaves the visitor in a Catch-22 situation. Whether or not to take that dangerous ride. The giant ship, Columbus, is yet another major crowd puller, especially among the youngsters who feel instantly drawn towards it. The swift jerks with every movement of the ship sometimes frightens but leaves an electrifying impact that not many can resist. The 'Break Dance' provides a unique feel by throwing the riders in unexpected jolts and jerks, in perfect rhythm with its name.

The camel and horse rides are irresistible for the tiny tots. Kids sitting pretty on the back of the majestically moving camels and horses make an interesting spectacle. Off the rides and an eye into the food outlets leaves you in confusion for the pick out act from the wide variety offered.

Food corner

From the healthy boiled corn to the spicy Rajasthani chat, the indispensable Chinese noodles and the non-veg section to the hot and spicy mirchi bajji, the long list of yummy delicacies is sure to lure visitors instantly. If you are a food junkie then this might be the place you ought to be in, munching your desired dishes even while savouring the beauty of an eventful evening around you. The expo has them all.

The lamps that can light up your house in a most attractive style, a delightful collection that can adorn your glass cases, brilliant pieces of oil paintings and flowers in different hues that can add a dash of liveliness to any corner of the house. Adding to this are a few furniture shops.

Cotton bazaar

" I am afraid of trying these rides. So, I prefer lapping up the cottons that flood the exhibition every year," grins Aparna, a college student. The huge crowds swarming the stalls offering cotton garments is an indication of their happiness to find new and innovative designs. Women thronging all corners to stuff their bags with the reasonably-priced bedspreads or cotton saris is a familiar sight.

Cashing in on the current rage that the long, flowing skirts are, almost all shops in the garment section have ensured their inclusion.

Available in a wide range of colours and designs, the skirts displayed outside would force you to pause and take note of their elegant style. Women offering to fill your palms with gorgeous Arabic designs by applying mehendi would complete your eventful evening. The toy stores are crowded with kids forcing their parents to purchase their pick.

The jewellery outlets with rare designs collected from all over the country, is striking.

The glossy bangles, the Kalamkari prints, the Lucknow chicken work and the Girijan stores for health buffs are some other stalls that have been attracting huge crowds.
