Aesthetic splendour

Interior Balaji and Hema have together worked to lend a classy touch to their abode, says Harjeet Kaur Allagh

We take a lot of interest in decorating the house and placing right things at right place

A fine blend of splendour and aesthetics is the home of Vallabhaneni Balaji and Hema. Situated off the busy Mahatma Gandhi Road, the house is an epitome of class and culture.

A rice mill owner from Vijayawada, Balaji and his better half have apparently invested a great deal of care and caution in enhancing the beauty of their abode.

Clean classic

The layout of the house is on clean and classic lines. The hall comprises plush Victorian style sofas furnished with satin and velvet upholstery. Richtussar silk curtains with gilt edged valences sway with the breeze while an oil painting of a traditional maiden on the wall catches attention almost instantly.

Lovely floral arrangements dominate the rooms showcasing Hema's love for flowers. Silver deepams and oxidized silver, musical instruments adorn the side tables and facing the opposite wall is the T.V cabinet that also has exclusive crystal ware. On the mantelpiece is silver candelabra positioned between a huge porcelain doll and a flower basket and above it is the mesmerizing view of scenery created using fresh flowers. Simply beautiful at one end of the hall is the puja room. Starkly simple, its door has bells carved on it.

A beautiful Tanjore painting of Goddess Lakshmi dominates the inside part which also has portraits of various deities placed in a row. Who takes care of all these things? "We take a lot of interest in decorating the house and placing right things at right place," says Hema.

Modern dining area

Passage from the hall leads to the contemporary and modern dining area. Use of steel and glass in the washbasin has served the dual purpose of utility as well as beauty. A clay painting on the sidewall enlivens the area. The kitchen is slightly off the dining area with a glass partition. The U-shaped door of the kitchen has bright flowers painted and the place is furnished with all the latest gadgets.

Hema loves to cook gourmet food and likes spending long hours in kitchen trying her hand in different dishes. To the right of the hall is the master bedroom that has ornate beds. Matching wardrobes and dresser are in burnished wood in Italian make. Adorning the wall are two miniature Jaipur paintings on marble. Refined taste

Fitness buffs

Balaji goes for morning walks that are almost like a ritual for him in addition to a weekly dip in the pool. Hema, a sweet and soft-spoken homemaker takes keen interest in interior decoration which clearly reflects in her tastefully done up home. Use of the treadmill and exercycle form an essential part of their exercise regimen.

The dιcor of the guest room exudes the refined taste of the couple. It has carved wooden beds and wardrobes in rosewood lining on the entire wall. Use of flowers on a side table has helped them usher in freshness. The room occupied by their eight-year-old son, Vishesh, is the brightest and liveliest of all. The hyperactive kid seems to be drawing his inspiration from Dennis the Menace. He loves to watch cartoons, play games on his computer, read books and strums the guitar too. The room is adorned with low, cast iron beds, bright curtains in colourful hues and a computer besides the cornices that hold his collection of toy cars of all sizes and models. The room provides perfect ambience for a young and sprightly child.
