Item numbers in serials!
A new trend is emerging in Hindi serials. Item numbers are being slipped into them to provide glamour and they are done by none other than the TV actresses themselves. TV star Manasi Varma has already done two item numbers in "Kkoi Dil Mein Hain" and "K-Street Pali Hill". And in "Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin", Nigar Khan did "Dhoka Hai... " number.
Though the idea stems from movies and music videos, it is not as glamorous or revealing on TV, as it is targeted at a family audience. The initial reaction of audience, especially the younger lot, is that they don't mind it, as it is a welcome relief from sob serials. The serials makers are happy, as their TRPs have shot up due to these item numbers, but the channel bosses are worried about the long-term consequences.
