THEY SAID IT
Be a role model
As a child grows into an adult, parental behaviour shapes his own. If a child lives with criticism, he learns to condemn. If a child lives with hostility, he learns to fight. If a child lives with ridicule, he learns to be shy. If a child lives with tolerance, he learns to be patient. If a child lives with encouragement, he learns to be confident. If a child lives with praise, he learns to appreciate. If a child lives with fairness, he learns about justice. If a child lives with security, he learns to have faith. If a child lives with approval, he learns to like himself. If a child lives with acceptance and friendship, he learns to find love in the world. All parents have their own ideas about bringing up children. It depends much on their own childhood experiences, socio-cultural factors and education. But it can be improved upon with professional guidance before entering parenthood or even later. Actually the parent-child relationship begins when the child is conceived. From that stage onwards, the child's physical and psychological needs should be taken care of by the parents. Besides, parents should be role models in inculcating values and habits such as caring, serving, sharing, hygiene, punctuality and discipline. As home is the first school, the child picks up positive traits early in life.
