The play is the thing

Expressions, the theatre group run by Arvind Mittal, is staging the well-beloved musical Fiddler on the Roof at Ravindra Bharati on April 22. The musical, with memorable numbers like Tradition, Matchmaker, Matchmaker, If I were a Rich Man and Sunrise, Sunset, also deals with serious issues like persecution, poverty and the struggle to hold on to beliefs.

This is the first time Mittal, who has staged innumerable plays in the city including Double Ka Meetha, No Exit and The Bald Soprano, is attempting something on such a vast scale.

The 20-member cast includes children who play ghosts in one of the song sequences, while the Dream Sequence is choreographed by Sujatha Academy of Bharatnatyam. Organised by the Department of Culture, the two-hour play, starts at 6.45 pm. Entry is free so make a note in your little black books for a date with Tevye and tradition!
