Ever loyal

When I read "Filling the void" (April 6), I was reminded of a rich landlord in our village. He was a widower, who showered his love and affection on his pet, which never deserted him. As time passed, his kith and kin distanced themselves from him for one reason or the other. When he wrote his will, he named his pet as his sole heir and the local welfare association as its guardian.

The loyalty of the dogs is immeasurable. Desiga Vinayagam Pillai in one of his poems described the dog as "Unda sotrai enni uyiraiyum vida thunibhavan" (Ready to give his life for his master).

Powerful piece

"Powered by their vision" was powerful. That the four visually challenged persons were able to shine in their chosen professions despite their disability should be noted by one and all. They should be appreciated for helping others with similar problems.

Positive approach

This has reference to the adverse remarks about teleserials in the Voice Your Views column (April 6). We all know that television is just for entertainment. All the serials cannot be dismissed as crass portrayals of all things negative. Those who think positively about the medium will realise that we can learn many good things from it. If AVM Chettiar and S. S. Vasan had thought negatively about the entertainment industry, we wouldn't have got such prestigious studios in the city.

I am educated and served the service industry (Government as well as private) and now I am an artiste associated with the entertainment industry. Unless you have talent, you cannot enter the film industry.

Whereas this is not the case with other industries, where you can get a job by producing certificates of your educational qualification. In fact, the entertainment industry, where age is no bar and there is no prescribed educational qualification either, alleviates poverty to a large extent by providing ample job opportunities.

Hence let's have a positive outlook towards teleserials.

Create categories

It will be useful to readers if the various suggestions and queries in the Goodfoodline column were categorised into vegetarian and non-vegetarian respectively. If this is done readers would have no difficulty in locating the information they desire.

Desi is best

This is with reference to the article "India through their eyes" (April 12). Indian women look best in `desi' attire, in fact, far better than their counterparts in Paris, London and New York. They don't need to don western styles to look beautiful.
